Recommended YouTube Channel: Guy in a Cube for Power BI and Microsoft Fabric

Power BI and Microsoft Fabric change every month, so a book or course can go out of date quickly. To keep up, I rely on a YouTube channel that has been teaching Power BI for years and now covers Fabric as well: Guy in a Cube.

The resource

  • Title: Guy in a Cube (YouTube channel)
  • Provider: YouTube
  • Presenters: Adam Saxton, Patrick LeBlanc and Alex Powers, who are Microsoft employees. The channel description states that Guy in a Cube isn’t associated with Microsoft.
  • Link: Guy in a Cube on YouTube

What it covers

The channel describes itself as “teaching you more than the clicks” of Power BI and Microsoft Fabric. You’ll find short videos on specific features, deeper explanations of modelling and DAX, and coverage of how your data fits into the wider Microsoft stack. If you’re new, start with the channel’s Get Started with Power BI playlist. It covers connecting to data, building your first reports, creating visualisations and sharing insights.

Who it’s for

Report developers, analysts and data engineers who work with Power BI or Fabric, from beginners to experienced developers. Because the videos are short and focused, it’s easy to find one that answers the problem in front of you today.

My take

What I value is the practical angle. The videos usually answer a real question, such as why a model behaves the way it does or which option suits a scenario, instead of just showing where to click. I treat the channel as continuous learning: I subscribe, scan new videos each week, and save the ones relevant to my current projects. For a new team member, the getting-started playlist plus a small real dataset is an excellent first week.

One tip: when a video covers a preview feature, check the current Microsoft documentation before you build on it. Features move quickly between preview and general availability, and details can change after a video is recorded.

This is an independent recommendation. I’m not affiliated with Guy in a Cube or YouTube.
